About Us

Posts relaying some of the more interesting items heard on the Sauk/Columbia County police, fire, and rescue scanner frequencies.

We will also share links to interesting news stories. You may even see an occasional rant, or opinion!

Many newsworthy occurrences are never mentioned by the local media. Baraboo Scanner will provide a forum for people to post and comment on police, fire, and rescue operations in the area, as they happen. If you choose to post items that you hear on the scanner or witness in person, please DO NOT post people's names or exact addresses of the event. This is necessary for the safety of our emergency personnel as well as the privacy of the parties involved. You would NOT like to find out on Facebook that a friend or family member was seriously injured...or worse.

Posting pictures of crashes/incidents

If you post an image, understand that we may delete some images of serious/fatal incidents, at our own discretion.

Keep in mind that taking photos or videos while operating a vehicle can be both illegal, and very dangerous. This falls under the distracted driving laws, and you can be cited. Do not put the lives of responders at risk to take a picture. If it is obvious to us that a photo was taken by a driver, and traffic does not appear to be stopped, we will delete the picture.

Please do not rush out to a scene. It is already a difficult job for responders on scene, and bystanders can make it worse! You can actually impede firefighters or rescue personnel when you get too close, if they have to assign someone to keep bystanders back.

IMPORTANT: In choosing to listen to a police scanner, you are likely to eventually hear about an incident involving your own friends or family. This is also true of liking Baraboo Scanner. By liking this page, you agree that you understand this. You are reading these posts by your own choice. Use discretion!

Baraboo Scanner is in no way associated with any local government or law enforcement agency. We monitor several police scanners and post all incidents that we believe to be of interest to our fans and the community. There will be days where we will not turn on the scanners. There will be many hours in a day where I am asleep or not available. As such, you should NOT count on Baraboo Scanner to inform you of all incidents that occur in your community.

We do not get paid to do this. In fact, we have spent a good amount of money on equipment and website hosting.

The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence." -Robert Peel
